Download Bathcards
One download, then about five minutes of set-up. Free during the beta.
The packaged installers are being built and are not ready yet. If you have been asked to try the beta now, use the beta set-up below.
Before you start
- A laptop running Windows 10 or 11, or macOS 13 or newer.
- Google Chrome, which is where the Moodle extension lives.
- A University of Bath account, so you can open your own unit pages.
- About 500 MB of disk space and five minutes.
There is no phone version. Bathcards runs on your own machine, and that is what keeps your course material on it.
Your computer will warn you about this download
It is worth knowing in advance, because the warnings look alarming and they are not about anything being wrong with the file.
On Windows: "Windows protected your PC"
A blue full-screen panel from SmartScreen. It appears for any program it has not seen downloaded many thousands of times before, which is every new program. Click More info, then Run anyway.
On macOS: "cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"
Gatekeeper. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, and click Open Anyway beside the Bathcards entry.
Once the macOS build is notarised by Apple this warning goes away entirely. That is in progress.
If you would rather check the file first: every release has a published SHA-256 checksum at release.json, and the installer verifies it before unpacking anything.
Beta set-up
Until the packaged installers are ready, Bathcards installs from a command. You will have been given an invite code; the installer asks for it.
Windows - paste into PowerShell
Press the Windows key, type PowerShell, open it, and paste this in.
irm https://bathcards.xandidrysdale.com/install.ps1 | iex
macOS - paste into Terminal
Press Cmd + Space, type Terminal, open it, and paste this in.
curl -fsSL https://bathcards.xandidrysdale.com/install.sh | bash
This is temporary and is the reason the packaged installers are being built. It installs the same program to the same place; the buttons above will simply do it for you.
Installed it?
The next part is pairing the Chrome extension and collecting your first unit. It takes about three minutes.
